One has to be licensed in order to be qualified for a position as an unarmed security guard in the state of Iowa.

Security Guard TrainingThe basic qualifications that must be met include:

  • Being 18 years of age or older
  • Being a citizen of the United States or a registered resident alien
  • Having a High school diploma or certification of equal value
  • Having good moral standards and character
  • Not being convicted of any felonies or crimes involving the use of alcohol or drugs
  • Submitting to a background check
  • Having good moral standards and character
  • Having not committed acts of fraud
  • Submitting a set of fingerprints
  • Attending and successfully completing an Iowa certified security guard training course

Additional conditions that could be of assistance include having a valid driver’s license, being in good physical shape, having the ability to stand for extended periods of time and possessing thorough communication skills.

The Security Guard Training Program

The basic training subjects that are within the security guard training course involve, but are not limited to:

  • The role of private security
  • Legal aspects
  • Patrol and observation
  • Incident response
  • Security resources: Surveillance operation and documentation
  • Customer service issues: Working with and addressing the public
  • First aid overview

Note that these are only basic requirements and more subjects can be taken and added as needed or preferred.
