In order to become an unarmed security officer or armed security officer in the State of Alabama, the state Licensing Board requires all prospective security guards to complete 8 hours of board approved classroom security guard training. These hours should be completed prior to requesting a license.
Candidates will have to complete a written exam on subjects learned during the 8 hour training course.
Furthermore, most security agencies and employers will often require supplemental training in addition to the standard 8 hour course.
Basic security guard training requirements:
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- No felonies or violent criminal convictions
- No prohibiting mental illness
- Sufficient physical shape for the position applied
- A G.E.D., high school diploma, or comparable certificate
To be able to bear arms on duty as an armed security guard, one is required to obtain additional training certifications.
